COVID-19 Update: Criminal arraignments are still open, and new cases can be dealt with through skeleton crew. All other staff have been adjourned until June. Family and Criminal Orders of Protection are extended until further notice. NYC Family Court began operations on 3/26/2020. NYC Criminal Court began virtual operations on 3/25/2020.

Family Court: Hears matters involving children and families. It has the authority to make legal decisions over the following types of cases: Abused or Neglected Children (Child Protective Proceedings), Adoption, Custody & Visitation, Domestic Violence (Family Offense), Foster Care Approval & Review, Guardianship, Juvenile Delinquency, Paternity, Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS), Child and/or Spousal Support.

Criminal Court: Handles misdemeanors (crimes punishable by fine or imprisonment of up to one year) and lesser offenses. The Court also conducts arraignments and preliminary hearings for felonies (crimes punishable by imprisonment of more than one year).
